[diesel_mercedes] Time Off

SWMBO got a bit miffed that I was taking too much time to play Mechanic so I took a few days off , I hope it's not too hot this week as I have two Motocycles to get ready for weekend rides and i want to wash my 'Benz too for the Cars & Coffee meet Saturday 8.13 .

We'll see what turns .

[diesel_mercedes] Diesel Chevette

That's amazing ;

I wonder how solid the car is , that's a lot of miles for such a cheaply built car .

I like Chevettes , we called them " 1/4Vette " when we had them in our Municipal Fleet , gasoline models only , tiny , under powered City only cars by design but they thrashed along just fine and as usual , GM's AC was the bees knees .

[diesel_mercedes] Throttle Linkage Service

FWIW ;

It's very important to disconnect each ball pivot and wipe the dirt and rust off the ball before lubricating each pivot .

I also use Q-Tips to clean out the female part .

Mercedes says to use ATF , I waffle with various lubricants , grease , light machine oil , ATF and sometimes (when I'm traveling and hear a squeak) engine oil from the dipstick .

The rod ends are easier to pop loose is you work the throttle slowly at the same time you pop them off......

Max,

A drop of oil on the 'bell crank' bushings (the other moving parts) helps too.

Just did mine, and it made a world of difference.

No ~

That's how it's supposed to look , there's a copper crush washer down inside the well .

Yours looks much better than the ones I removed and discarded did .

I'd not use MEK , just keep it simple and use Ether and some Q-Tips .

I took the outlet off and have som MEK to clean the bits with. But the question arises - should there be an oring in the grove around the valve seat. See attached pic.

O.K. ;

I still have some issue I don't fully understand with my throttle linkages .

I had the FSM's measurement page and used that to no good effect .

I was looking at the three Diesel Mercedes' in the Oceanside P-A-P and noticed they all had easier to push throttle than my '84 Coupe does after careful cleaning and lubrication of all the pivot balls and the bell cranks too .

What I'm looking for now is : a link to some DIY pages that cover actual hands on linkage rod adjusting , hopefully with pictures.....

TIA ,

-Nate
