Re: [diesel_mercedes] A Thing Of Beauty

That's one thing we lack here is good old junk yards. The last ones got
closed a few years ago. Mercedes were never plentiful here anyways. Are
any of those cars far enough apart to get to the air conditioner
evaporators? Mine has a huge hole in it.

[diesel_mercedes] Fuel Economy Check '84 300CD Slushbox

No additives used .

442 miles, 24.1 MPG .

The low fuel light went on @ 369 miles, I hyper miled it to Anaheim and thence to Arcadia where I filled it with Propel HPR Disel .

It's running quite well, only a bit of the fine black stuff in the fuel return filter and minimal 'coffee grounds' looking stuff in the clear plastic intake screen .

I have just ordered a gallon jug of 'Biobor JF', it's the stuff Mercedes says to use to treat fungus, I'll give it a whirl .

[diesel_mercedes] A Thing Of Beauty

Yesterday after much back and forth with UPS who said they'd hold it for local pickup, they left my new Nissens OM616/617 radiator on my porch after sunset *:-S worried .

It's been raining here and I was beat, I got up at the buttcrack of dawn and drove home, it was leaning against my front door .

The sticker / box / labels etc. don't say where it was made and apparently they no longer reinforce the top connection but all in all it looks wonderful .

I then drove 41 miles to Anaheim to discover the LKQ was ful of rainwater and the oil soaked ground was like greased glass plus someone had taken the darn coolant hose I wanted *:-&lt sigh .

As long as I was there I grabbed a new plastic dashboard speaker grille and a hand full of original Mercedes hose clamps plus hopefully enough wire to make up a factory looking European style parking light  indicator .

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Speaker Basics

I have a smaller bass/amp(one of my boys put it in) behind the drivers seat. By smaller I mean he has had 2000W units in the back of his Subaru that you probably hear in the next county, mine is not that big. Anyway this thing with the four stock speakers and a cheap cd player that also plays a flash drive, sounds pretty good. Max

Thank you Mark ;

I'd forgotten all about the importance of 'phasing' multiple speakers....

I looked at the Clarion site and they have a variety of 4 ohm automotive application speakers .

There's a decent size flange so making it hold tightly in place shouldn't be too difficult .

The speaker is now held with just one screw and no buzz/rattles .

I'll have ti hunt up the old original speaker I recently took out of my '84 Coupe and measure it for the proper size then go price these things up .

I wonder if I can manage to squeeze the 5.5" one into my 1969 VW Beetle ? I know good speakers make old tech (this one is a 6 volt antique AM  thing) radios sound pretty good .

I'm hoping to get back to the Beetle this Spring .

Clarions were pretty good, but a few things: it needs to snuggle down so it doesn't foul the grill, it needs to be held solidly in place to avoid vibration and it needs to be wired so that the speakers are polarized. That is, + and - need to match. If you are not sure simply reverse one channel's wires and listen for improved bass and separation.
