Hey..

As you may recall, my g/f blew the front end off my '84 SD.

She hit JUST to the right of the right bumper attachment, taking down a tree with an 8" trunk.

I have flush fit headlights, I was going to install, those are going on..

I was going to replace the a/c compressor, while it's easier to get to, replace the flex lines between the tranny and the cooler. I've got a new reciever/dryer, and will be getting a new condenser with the clip.. The radiator and antifreeze were good.. I'm going to flush the radiator-- with hopes of keeping those that way.. The fan has multiple broken blades, so I was going to go to an electric fan setup, similar to the "diesel giant" setup..

http://www.dieselgiant.com/mercedeselectricfaninstall.htm

He wants over $300 for his kit.. I'm thinking I can safely find SOMETHING cheaper-- would you not agree??

Are there any other "services" I should consider doing, while I have "better access" to do it??

I'm going to do some rust repair along the passenger rear jack point, and have a 2" reciever hitch built.

I was running an "open" exhaust (nothing attached beyond the downpipe)

I may try to do a straight exhaust or a single low restriction muffler, as the noise really isn't that great. Not sure it's in the budget right now..

Any thoughts???

Re: [diesel_mercedes] Weekend Fun Time !

My fun time consisted of changing pre filters on both 300d's and noting how clean, clear, and pure the old ones were. Sorry about anyone who fights the black gooey gunk cuz I ain't got none, nor do I want any.

I'm waiting for Tom to arrive so we can go off junkyard hopping & hopefully find a W-123 wagon right rear door to buy , I really need to get the window to close on SWMBO's Euro 300TD as she's keep to begin driving it .

[diesel_mercedes] Re : Topic Drift : Racing

Hudson's racing efforts were simple : dual carbys and low center of gravity .

Ths pi$$ed off the big three so badly , they had nascar cheat and change the rules to knock Hudson out of the racing game .

The dual carbys were available on the sedans too , you'll occasionally see the " Twin H Power " badging on the trunk, now you know what it means .

Hudson's were & are , terrific cars , notice I don't own one though .

Don't know what the deal was with the Hudson, but they seemed to dominate things with stock car racing in the early 50's.

It is hard to believe that a flat head six could out power the early Olds and Caddy's.

I grew up about 25 miles from Darlington and remember well the racing in the mid to late 50's. By then, Hudson was on it's way down as a car maker.

Doug, I was interested to know that Houston had it's share of stock car racing back then. In my small world, I thought it was only a part of the deep south.
