How can one do " modifications to the gear ratio"? Max

I drive it 60 most of the time to get top fuel economy .Driving a slushbox equipped 240D over 65 ~ 70 MPH is beating the crap out of it , don't complain when/if it screws up after much of that .I also try to keep a sharp eye on the valve adjustments and filters etc.This time the fuel in the clear plastic intake screen was tea colored , I tapped it a bunch with a screw driver handle before slacking the clamps and didn't see the usual chunks of dead fungus ~ a few tiny black things that blew right out leaving me with a clean filter screen so I reinstalled it filled up and went on my way .-NateLawrence wrote:

I've seen 240's tackle the Altamont pass on the 580 freeway at 65mph while mine barely did 50mph(300TD).of course I'm running veg oil. But not all cars are equal. I've had a number of diesels. The best was an 83 240 which nothing seemed to faze it. It would do 60 over the pass on Veg oil. Slightly better on diesel. Lawrence Rhodes
