This group provides a forum for owners and operators of diesel powered motorhomes and 5th wheel tractors to discuss mechanical issues, regulatory issues (US, Canada), ownership, insurance, campground accommodations, trip reports/suggestions, and other topics relevant to large RVs and the people who drive them.

I messed up!
Heavens no not a gasser, it was suppose to read E 300D 1997
Does the diesel have harmonic balancers? I saw no rust around the shock towers are they a weak point in these cars?
The Steering seems tight with no wander, how do I look for front end problems.
it is on a Used car lot car fax says it has been owned by 2 people one for one year and one for 14 years. Out the door price is 5600 everything but tags. 30 day drive out temp tags included

Nate,
My lens go from the inside out red to amber and as it turns to the side back to red. I hope this is an odd pattern.

I have a 1982 300CD turbo. About a year ago my glow plug relay fuse blew for the first time. It has since blown a half dozen times. Simple to replace, it is an 80 Amp bridge fuse.
I had suspected I had a glow plug that was the culprit but I did a VOM test a few days ago and found all of my glow plugs are good.
Any idea what gives on this. Obviously when the relay fuse blows there is not starting the car. I did notice when this first started that the glow plug light would only come on for a second or so, mostly in the middle of the sequence, meaning that the glow plug indicator did not light when the key first turned, but come on after a second or two.
I have and can continue to periodically replace the fuse, but I would like to get to the bottom of this.

But another lady has cought my eye... a 1997 300e that has 170 thousand but is the cleanest 15 year old car I have ever seen. What do you all think of these cars. They are wanting around 5800 for her. I have not ever seen any of you discussing this era of diesels on this list. I know that this is not turbo only the 98-99s are. But it drives peppy enough. The first gear sounds different than my old 81 but the transmission shifts very smoothlly. What say ye?

The control arm bushings were bad and both front springs were broke very costly and a major job (that i haven't finished yet)

If you're lucky ;
The yard will have the European cars set in a mixed clump , these days usually way in the back as Asian cars make more $ for them .
You never said if your turn lens is yellow or amber .
Be very picky ! most of these have cracks and chips but if your have patience , you'll find perfect ones in a bit .
