Re: [diesel_mercedes] question about rot on fins and pontons

Think of where water would settle - gravity rules. Bottom of doors for instance. One post somewhere suggested to take a small screwdriver with you to poke in places that look good, but are rotten. Even desert cars are going to have some rust after 40 years unless the car has been 100% garaged. Go to a body shop and ask the owner or manager your question too.

hi,
I am considering buying a fintail or ponton but I am unsure where to look for rot on these models. Most of the  ads I see indicate that the cars have "little rust" but frequently they really mean "little rust for the age" which means frame rot may be present...I'm sure you know what I am getting at. Anyway, the common rot points and other major concerns not easily repaired are what I am interested in. thanks.

Could the hose hanging in the breeze (rear passenger side unconnected and dry)be
the one from the sensor to the alternate electric water pump?  Why is this
needed?  Obviously the car can run without it but will there be overheating
problems?  Lawrence Rhodes.
