Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: MORE Thursday Fuel Funnies

I need to do a few repairs this week on my MB, as well as tires and front end work, yet now I also need to replace the master cylinder on my Toyota pickup, as just crawled out of the middle of the Mojave without much in the way of brakes. Glad it has a manual tranny. We were camping out, yet decided to leave when the gale force, frigid winds picked up today.

Thanx ! .

That's about what I had from Chevron ;

I ran it out and refilled the tank with Mobil brand and it's clear again now .

Still having some issues with slow idle and occasional stalling .

I got up and out before daybreak this morning and drove to San Bernardino where LKQ LIED and said they had TWO W-123 Coupes , of course not one W-123 in the yard but I did find a couple bits and bobs ($8.95) .

Then I headed West stopping at various LKQ yards on my way , only the Rialto yard had the same two picked over W-123's I hit Friday , as my HVAC fan still isn't working I bought the " TEMPOMAT " fan control box , I don't know if it's any good but i have to get some air flowing through this car soon as Summer is coming up fast .

When I left this , last yard , I started the engine and heard a terrible squealing racket from under the hood ~ popped it and wasn't able to discern what's making the noise , prolly the water pump (replaced not long ago) or the alternator (ditto) . I had where to be so I hit the road and after a few miles the racket stopped .

I hope I can get the time to remove the V-Belts and hand twirl tings to see which  one is rough indicating a bad bearing .

Or maybe it's just old dried out V-Belts clamoring for replacement....

It rained to - day =8-( not fun when you're Junk Yarding .

I need to find a W-116 300SD / SDL A.S.A.P. if anyone has one for parts....I need some non wearing engine parts .

Is Ben from Detroit still out there ? .

[diesel_mercedes] HVAC Blower Motor Service / Repair

I'm not sure just yet Max ~

I pulled the URO fan out and slapped in the used original one , still no  joy .

Testing the new URO one shows it's working so now I have to dig further into the Klima II system and teach my self how to diagnose and repair it......stand by please .

I left the fan out and the lower dash cover off , thinking it'd blow outside air in the open plenum but no ~ .

I guess it's time to begin vacuum testing , I grabbed the Harbor Freight vacuum pump tool and tossed it into the trunk , I need to find a small nipple for it so i can connect it to the little vacuum hoses and actuators , it comes with a large (7/16" or so) male nipple making it useless for Automotive works and God alone knows where I carefully and safely stored my old Mity-Vac tool .

I need to go back and take a dead original HVAC fan apart to see if I can get the brushes from NAPA ~ I bought some and gave a pair to Tom , not seen nor heard about them since , I only ever ask three times then I go elsewhere .

I took apart two radiator fans thinking I would put new brushes in. Both were so melted/destroyed not fixable.Ended up buying a round universal fan from a auto parts store which has worked good. Bummer about the URO fans. Is this to say they are  junk? All of them. ?Losing your blower/fan in summer is probably worse because then no air, at least with heat you get some when you get up to speed. Dang I was gonna buy one just for stock on my shelve. Yes and no Max ;

It's designed to be very easily removed but not to be serviced / repaired .

I bought the bush kit from Mercedessource , the instructions were missing a page but it's a fairly easy job , having the correct tools for the crimped motor housing is very important .

I took it apart and cleaned a large amount of leaves , dust bunnies and misc. debris out of both the plastic fan wheel (Squirrel Cage) and the heater plentums , then I washed the fan wheel because if you can see the dirt on it , it's unbalanced .

I had some trouble adding one or two drops of lubricant to the moto's shaft , you don't want much in there , Bill hipped me to a Radio Shack needle oiler , they were out of stock and rude , I never did get one and lost the part number (hint) .

In my case the old commutator was worn out so I popped for a new Uro when they dropped the price to $100 even .

It shakes and is noisy on high speed so I don't recommend the Uro brand , not even for FREE if you find one in a junker .

Take the old one out and give it a spin by hand ~ if little or zero turning resistance , take _one_ brush out and try to match them up , if you find them please post the part number , my local NAPA doesn't stock much of anything .

Start to finish it's a two hour job including cleaning the old fan .

$10 is reasonable for the brushes and instructions from Kent I think .

THANX Rob ~

How much was it ? .

I'm thinking of this solution too  as driving in So. Cal. in Summer sans vent wings or a ventilation blower , is pretty rough although I could use to sweat off 40 pounds....... .

For some stupid assed reason I used hex headed screws to install the Uro brand blower I discovered this as I was doing some curbside service whilst waiting on my Son Thursday evening.....

I really want to get a good blower in there ASAP and ave to dig out a nut driver as the factory tool kit's open ended 8MM wrench is too wide to fit in the recess where the screws are .

Of course , I left the perfect , corret original screws in the foot well of the smashed '84 in the Junk Yard.... .

Pleas advise how $pendy that new blower motor was .

"This one yielded a nice driver's side door card in Palomino , a good working HVAC fan (the $100 URO brand one quit working after only a few months "

Nate, I bought a new MB blower, as I didn't think the URO one's were going to last, and/or would fry the electronics.

[diesel_mercedes] Re: Saturday Morning Fun (?)

You're *so* right Brian ! .

These days i'm so work out and broken up I wonder if I could push a VW Beetle through an intersection .

My very first Beetle when I was 14 and had no driver's license (oops)  was a 160 # 117 DeLuxe with Sliding Sunshine Roof , it had a 36hp engine , crash box tranny nd a bad battery so I had to push start it every where , every time .

I lived down a driveway with a slight incline and would pull it up to the street level every morning by pulling the front bumper.....

Those were the dayze indeed ~ a ' rebuilt ' battery was $9 and I was lucky to have a Dollar or two to fill the tank @ .32 CENTS the Gallon .

[diesel_mercedes] spring cleaning

Have decided to do some spring/10 year cleaning.
I have decided I should get rid of some of my mercedes parts.

I live near Vancouver BC.

I have a 240D motor and standard trany
I also have a 240D with auto trany.

I have a 1979 300TD car with a 40K on rebuilt 300 non turbo, but very rusty body.

I also have a 1981 300TD turbo originally from california, but needs rear suspension works.

I also have a few parts from a 1979 300D with brown interior, that I stripped down a few years ago.

If anyone is in the area and is interested in any of these, let me know.
