Re: [diesel_mercedes] AC

Nope, no R-12. I got some stuff made in Idaho. I went to their place and got a case for me and a case for Henry. It takes much less of the stuff, almost half as much. Works good. I even put it in my Sunfrost 12VDC fridge. Max

So far I've not had to replace the R-4 compressor in SWMBO's '82 240D , I've re charged it once or twice and it always blows ice cold .

One important thing to keep your AC working for decades is to _USE_IT_ ~ every two weeks it needs to be run to circulate the oil and lubricate the seals .

Failure to do this is what kills 99 % of all AC systems .

FWIW , running the AC on full cold will defrost your windshield faster too , by the time you've gone three or four blocks the glass will be clear and you can cut off the AC and crank up the heat .

I got my AC working in my 80 240, finally. It's been working great for about 2 years now. Before that we replaced everything except the compressor and the AC would work  for the short summer then leak over the winter, then next summer a shot of AC juice and it would work. I finally replaced the compressor and now, wow, it works good. Max

White shift levers ? . eh ? .

I'd be skittish about not order / tracking # , give them three weeks then dispute the charges to your account ~ keep a log of dates & times you tried calling .

Maybe he's just busy a few weeks .

[diesel_mercedes] Turbo Overhaul

O.K. ;

I've known this junkyard turbo wasn't stellar for a long time (years) now but the sluggish acceleration is getting to me , especially after driving SWMBO's low mileage 300TD that weights far more than my dainty (heh) Diesel Sports Coupe does ~

The Wagon simply _hauls_@$$_ with very little foot feed , the Coupe needs full throttle to go 2/3 as fast and when I manually spin the turbo impeller I fell it has drag so I bet when I open it up I'll find serious coking in there .

I just ordered up the higher grade kit from Kent @ Mercedes Source .

Tom's been after me to do this for a while now , the constant exhaust smoking & Diesel Smoot on the cove , tells me he's right and I shoulda pulled the trigger here a few years ago .

Anyway, relatively easy to install but not a "perfect fit" so I have to slam the door shut which I think will jiggle some screws loose one of these days. URO parts apparently is a very MAJOR after market supplier of parts for vehicles. I accidentally got in touch with their HQ offices when TWO front window seals arrived with defects (razor blade slits?) so I had to return them and get replacements.
