Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re: I thought I was feeling like the Maytag Repair Man.

Having been raised by and among automotive Francophiles, more than a few Dauphines were tried.  Eventually, most settled on Peugeots (403s and 404s) for their build quality, (relatively) conventional design, and longevity.  (My godfather put over 200,000 miles on a 403 before he finally sold it, running, to some hapless college kid in the early '80s.)  Unfortunately, the 504s of the 70s ended the great love affair....

Diesel content (though not MB):  Few are aware that Winnebago made a mini-RV, "LeSharo" (and stablemate Itasca Phasar) based on the Renault Trafic minivan, from '84 to '91.  For the first three years, it was powered by a 2.1 litre, four cylinder Renault indirect injected turbo-diesel.  Yeah, it wasn't, and isn't, for everyone....

Brad,

This should be a simple belt change. I have not done the job yet, but I'll post up any thing interesting. I don't think anything is seized.

The Renault was the poor man's excuse for a VW bug in the late 50's and 60's. They were pretty much pieces of junk, but the French body styles on the 2cv and the Dauphin gave grown on me over the years.

My dad had both of these models, but you hardly ever see one any more.
