Re: [diesel_mercedes] The Frankensteining of Great Cars

I just came across an adapter to put vw tdi motors into many toyotas(including) trucks and Suzuki samurais and geo trackers(chevy).  Tdi fuel economy in a Toyota pickup...Mmmmmmm!

Lets lift a toast to the Chevy 350 engine with 2 four barrels. I miss mine sorely at times.

Just every now and then it will come across this board about stuffing a 350 Chevy (great motor by the way) into a MB. I think it was a popular swap into the old XJ6 Jags as well.

The ultimate insult I saw the other night while pulling into a jazz club. One of the band members pulled in just before me in a yellow RR Corniche convertible. It was an absolutely perfect bodied car, great leather and a first class new top.

He decided the car might be better parked out front and he cranked it up to pull around. It was like looking at a beautiful blond with a perfect body, only to see her smile through rotten teeth. It cranked up and sounded like total crap. I don't think I should have been able to hear the thing start if it had been proper. The he thumped it into reverse with that awful thud that my Range Rover use to make.

I walked around front and commented on his car and the engine. Sure enough, it was a Chevy 350. Making it much worse, the guy was proud of the swap out! He clearly had the bucks to have all the right stuff under that wonderful hood. It was probably a $100,000 mistake on the resale.

And, he couldn't play the drums worth a shit.
