[diesel_mercedes] New Beetle TDI Vs. Old Mercedes

Well yes , the engine is great but the car itself , is rather poorly made and they fall apart fast and need _constant_ repairing , especially the electrics .

I see them in Pick-A-Part all the time with nice shiny paint and NO DENTS.....

My son who was brought up on my old VW's had one for a while , it was nice (quiet , killer AC etc.) but it failed window switches and handles , little niggly things that drove him crazy so he junked it .

What's there to laugh about? This list one of our best MB diesel gurus to a TDI Beetle some five or so years ago. This guy had, in addition to a 300D, a 240DT (gray-market wagon) that he had correctly fitted a turbo to (with piston coolers and turbo pistons), before running up over half a million miles on it. He had a garage full of W123 parts. He bought this used VW, found he got over 40 mpg pulling his RV, sold the MBs and all the parts, and hasn't been heard from here since.... And this guy had owned MB diesels, new and used, for decades!
