I appreciate the education. Can the tail pinion oil seal be replaced
without replacing the crush sleeve? From your explanation, I'd guess
the answer is no. My differential has a plate on the front, the side
where the tail pinion protrudes, this plate is shimmed to the rear
axle housing and carries an oil seal through which the tail pinion spins.
I've had that seal repaced 2 times and 25K mile intervals. At neither
time was a new crush sleeve installed. Is this the proper seal replacement
methodology?
