[diesel_mercedes] Rust Causes

Yes and no Max ;

I grew up in Rural New England and lived off the paved Highway on a Dairy Farm for some years , no salt ever but , the snow and grime that flings with it , gets up in the nooks and crannies of many cars (50's vintage GM's come to mind) and remains there long after the snow has melted away , holding moisture in close contact with your precious steel,,,,,,,,

Snow, by itself has nothing to do with car rusting. But if you drive where they dump chemicals for ice then that takes its toll. Around here I think they started using a liquid chemical, sprayed on the roads before snow to prevent ice buildup. Someone told me its like the stuff in tractor tires, calcium somethingor other  .In NE Washington where we certainly get a snowy winter, rusted out cars are not a normal thing, but the cars from back east and parts of Montana are. max
