Over how many years ? .
Many people expect to pay more than $2,000 annually for Mtce.on late model German vehicles , I do not .
Yes an old car takes some large infusions of $ from time to time but , if you take good care of your Mercedes it will be far cheaper in the long run than the note plus mtce . on any new car .
I spent $5K rebuilding the engine in my Diesel Sports Coupe but then I paid scrap value for the car and over the years Ive been driving the car I put over 15,000 miles every 12 months so I'm quite happy to invest some $ that I know will never come back out of it .
For me the daily driving pleasure , speed and comfort is sufficient , add in the superior safety and reliability and it's a no - brainer .
Plus , I really think it's a stylish looking car , as a Journeyman Mechanic I take some pride in what I drive .
Those here who've not seen Brian's twin 1983 300D's , they're immaculate , clean and shiny , always ready for his road trips .
If you buy a vehicle and just drive it and fix it when it breaks , you're never going to be a happy camper as this sets you up for unreliability , be the vehicle new or used .

Since purchasing my (2) 1983 300d's I have probably put over $5-10K in each of them. That is just the nature of keeping a good car running like a champion. I don't mind putting $1K per year in each one. After all, I don't have car payments, my insurance is cheap, and I get to play at being a backyard mechanic.
