Re: [diesel_mercedes] What is the function of the Control Pressure Rod?

I wouldn't let the control rod keep you from firing up the engine.  The control rod controls when the car shifts (in conjunction with the vacuum modulator).  You can even drive it without the control rod, but not too much.  The transmission will shift too early, and there may be some slipping at heavier throttle pressure.  But, puttering around with a light throttle for short distances won't hurt anything.  Over time, though, the transmission will wear out prematurely.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] What is the function of the Control Pressure Rod?

Kevin is about ready to put fluids in my car and start her up.  He's got one question though that we can't seem to find the answer on...

What is the function of the Control Pressure Rod?

Does he have to have it hooked up right before he tries to start the car?

You may recall when we put the motor from the '80 300D into my '81 300D, we ran into a problem with the CPR hitting the firewall.

The response from the group was to bend or cut it to fit.

He said he's tried to bend it, but is having trouble getting it to fit. He hasn't gone to cutting yet.
