Finally making progress on the electrics on my 83 300SD. The battery
drain was caused by a faulty window switch. The way the window motors
are connected, 12V is fed to both sides of the motor. When the switch
is activated, one side or the other is disconnected from the power feed
and connected to ground so the motor will run. The switch apparently
was bleeding of some voltage to ground. Changing the switch solved the
problem. The next problem was the non running blower motor. I pulled
the motor and cleaned the commutator. The brushes seemed ok. Putting
power directly to the motor caused it to run. I then pulled the
pushbutton module and replaced it with a spare. Bingo - it's all good.
Next problem, the fiber optic lights don't. I haven't been able to
locate the bulb assembly in the morass of wires. Can anyone give me a
clue to where it is exactly? I'd like to get the car back together
before tonight's snow storm.
