Diesel and Home heating oil, almost exactly the same.

Diesel in my area, $3.80+, Home Heating oil $3.40+, give or take a nickle.

You do hy Heating oil in bulk, 100+ gallons, so that reduces the price, but it is delivered, increasing the price, probably a wash.

That leaves state and federal road tax, which in most states is more on diesel than on gasoline. In the good old days, the percentage of people that used diesel in their cars was just about nill, and the goverment needed a way to tax comercial truckers more, thus a higher raod tax on diesel.
