We used it on boats. All it is is sucking out the fuel, running it through a series of filters (similar to pre filter on pump) and returning it to the tank. Using a wand or hose to move the intake around the tank (corners, etc) helps. In boats, as I recall we ran it thru 3 times +/-. We came to the conclusion that if there was not a specific reason (fuel filters plugging or substantial quantities of third world fuel) it was easier to keep an eye on the filters and if necessary change the filter more often.
