Nate,
I thought about changing manifolds, and have some from Brian's earlier dead engine, yet there are other routing issues with the A/C etc, which all are CA '85 specific, and would have to be changed too. Not impossible, yet more than just manifolds.

I'd think it a fairly simple thing to replace the '85 Ca. only manifolds etc., the $avings in air filters alone should cover the Junk Yard parts in a few years.....
Once in a while I see non - egr manifolds, they're (IMO) the best way to go .
The bad bit about the possible air cleaner mounts failing on my Coupe (I've still not looked yet) is : they're OEM from the M-B Classic Center, only a year or two old and the last ones I bought from them are _NOT_ original parts ! (no casted in Mercedes logos/part #'s) ~ they're the same cheapo 'URO' brand crap I can buy anywhere for $1.50 each ~ I wrote and asked Tom what's the deal and we said " that's it now" ~ I find it hard to believe Mercedes would substitute chinese carp parts in their sealed bags but VW did it to me in the 1990's so we'll see .
If the mounts are parted I will be taking them back for warranty replacement .
BTW : I am loving my re-calibrated hearing aids ! .

Nate,
I know how you feel. I got a tin can rattling around under the hood, well actually it's the thin outer cover over the hollowed out CAT. Still thinking about the best plan to stop the rattling, maybe a few small holes and wire the parts together. It's a PITA to get in that area, so I haven't done anything with it. When I get a moment...

So ;
I got new molds for my hearing aids and a hearing test that indicated they needed adjusting, all fine and dandy until I get out to the car, light it off and hear some high frequency rattling......
I need to see if I can do an oil change anyways so will look under the hood soon and see if it's the air cleaner mounts again .
