So ;
Many people ask me _why_ the glove box full of little spare parts and the ash tray full of spare fuses, "Just So" hose clamps and so on ? .
I stopped in to fill the tank of my greymarket '84 300TD and looked at the clear plastic fuel intake screen, it's got a blue screen and has been there some time now as it's always clear .
I noticed some tiny bits of crud and turned it a bit to look at the underside and SNAP ! the inlet barb broke right off in my hand .
I looked in the glove box and discovered NO spare filters .
I opened the tool kit and grabbed the original screwdriver, removed the broken off screen and short bit of hose on the intake side, re connected the IP's intake hose directly to the steel pipe from the fuel tank and we were off again .
I also noticed the short bit of hose wasn't the typ I like although it looks flexible and fine, the two clamps on that side were also Ideal "jubilee clip" screw typ hose clamps, I hate those and so will soon replace them with proper # 14 (?) band typ hose clamps, I'm sure I have spares in my Coupe's ash tray .
Anyway, 319 miles, only 20.3MPG ~ is this normal for a TD ? .
I wonder because :
A. it's heavier than a Coupe or Sedan
B. European Specification so maybe different fuel economy (?) .
Anyway, it's full o the brim with bio based (not veggie) Diesel fuel and SWMBO can drive it until I get the new intake screen and hose clamps etc. , etc. .
