THANK YOU BILL ! .
The third result there is it : http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Mercedes-W123/80-ELEC-Intermittent_Wiper_Relay_Replacement/80-ELEC-Intermittent_Wiper_Relay_Replacement.htm#Customer_Comments_Bookmark
And here's the money shot, please to note the relay with the red arrow IS NOT the wiper relay, if you open this photo on your computer you'll see the wiper relay just behind and to the right, plugged into a female receptacle .
Now I can begin dreaming about taking my dash apart, I've been wanting to order a new plastic binnacle since last year when I built one up out of all the various best W123 binnacle parts I had plus a rebuilt speedo .
My binnacle is worn and cracked where the clean lens is glued to the black plastic ~ I cleaned it like mad and carefully hand polished the occluded lens inside and out but it bothers me knowing it's broken and someone always seems to take or destroy the W123 binnacles before I get there .
Relay Part #: 000-821-08-63-MBZ
FWIW, I have never owned a 1977 240D ~ our first Mercedes Diesel was and remains our 1982 240D .
This job is on my ancient and battered if beloved 1984 Diesel Sports Coupe .
I _did_ have a first year (? 1978 ?) NA 300CD a while back .
