IIRC ;
The head lamp current runs up through the dipper switch on the steering column , luckily this switch is dead easy to change and available cheaply new .
Before touching the switch , I'd suggest testing the pertinent fuses in situ using a test light , then replace all that have silver colored strips as they corrode . replacements from the VW / Porsche / BMW Partshaus will have copper strips that resist corrosion .
For quick relief , simply roll the fuses in place as you watch the headlights , if they flicker & come back on , you've found the trouble .
You'll need 8 and 16 ampere fuses , count how many of each before buying to save time and frustration .
