I had the same problem with a 240D, even did a valve job. Checked everything, very hard to start but ran great once we got it running. Never did find the problem. We cut it up to put a front end on another car after it was sideswiped and we cleared enough insurance money to make it go away. I wondered if the fuel timing was off, but I think I got it right when I replaced the head. Never did figure out the problem.quick guess is the wires to the plugs. Might have to take plugs out and test each outside the engine. one or two may be bad. I saw that on a video once. jmho
