[diesel_mercedes] Re: 240D reoccuring failure

Maybe the belts are too tight. Or one is too tight and other(s) too loose. That might cause a problem. I don't know about balancing the pulleys etc.

I bought it 3 years ago and drove it for 2 years and 20,000 miles before the accessory pulley sheared the 5 bolts that mount it to the shimmy damper. I had the damaged pully and radiator fan replaced by a respected independant Mercedes mechanic. 1 year and 12,000 miles later it happened again. Both times I was on the highway and had been driving 65 for about an hour. The engine has a shimmy damper and no balance plate. Has anyone else encountered this problem? What is the soulution? There must be some known issues because the configuration of the damper/ballance plate appears to have changed 3 times over the model run. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Art
