Not always dishonest , often it's the normal business to send the cores back to the supplier as soon as they come in and once it's gone , it remains gone....
I've been working both sides of the Parts Counter for many years now .
It drives me batty to see Trish have so much extra hassle because she had to give up her old engine & tranny before the job was done .
I've been building good vehcles out of cast off junk in a muddy field since the mid 1960's and IMO doing it my way , always results in a better , cheaper _easier_ job .
Just look at Tom's cherry W-126 or any of the junkers I drive ~ all were scraped or headed that way when I bought them ,if I do my job right , most fos cannot tell anyone has ever touched them when they peer under the hood .
Tom's W-126 of course , came from someone who loved and cared for it , never was it anywhere near a junkyard until I began working on it .
