Caitliin: Nate is right. A faulty regulator on the alternator will drain the battery because the regulator is always connected to the battery. It goes through a diode but those can fail and start draining your battery. There is a plug on the alternator that is a pain to get from above but is easy from below. It has a clip on it you will need to deal with. Go easy with it. If the light goes out then it's the alternator. This is the best test I can think of for proving the alternator is the cause.
