RE: [diesel_mercedes] Doing some R&D need your help

Yeah, there's something wrong if you're only able to go 10 MPH, on ANY hill.  I had a normally aspirated (non-turbo) 300D ('77), and, even around here, at a mile high, it had no real problems.  The car was rated at 80hp, at sea level, which meant about 68 hp around town here, and around 55 hp at 10,000 ft.  Anyone who's driven I-70 west from here to Vail knows what it's like, and, while I obviously wasn't the fastest thing running up there, I was by no means the slowest, either.  It kept up with traffic with little trouble.  Acceleration was, well, leisurely, but it DID accelerate.

Barry, have faith. Do all of the basics (especially  a valve adjust) because these engines are made for climbing mountains (think Alps) as well as other things. Just keep a log and do one thing at a time.

Well the only things I have not done is valve's and fuel timing I had a little fuel leak that was letting a little air in making it run lean which made a bit of a nock. other than that it runs great.
I live at the to of a mountain the road has one real steep part that if I don't get a long run at it I almost don't make it. The third gear runs at about 3200 RPMs at fifty miles hour and that's when I hear the nocking other than that I can't figure what else to do.
