[diesel_mercedes] Re - Pop W-123 Grille

My beloved Coupe's plastic grille is looking tired and the aluminum strips stopped being shiny when it was abandoned in a Sta. Monica front yard near the beach for years so I bought a new grille , URO brand and tried to install it the other night after work .

Although it looks beautiful , the stamped steel part is poorly done and it was assembled using the wrong typ of screws and incorrectly to boot ~

Nevertheless I was game and installed my spare , non corroded Mercedes star and swapped over the clips they don't provide , before attempting to attach it to my hood and that's when the problems began.

After an hour or three , I had it taken apart to see if maybe I can use at least the spiffy looking plastic part with it's shiny aluminum strips .

I seem to recall Mercedes designed it so the plastic part can be carefully removed without needing to bend the metal surround but no such joy on this new POC .

About this time the sun went down leaving me in the gloom with two piles of Mercedes grille parts and tools scattered about so I buttoned it all up and went off to bed & to - day , much to my shame , the L.A.P.D.'s parking lot had a Hoopty Ghetto Ride old Mercedes junker in it sans any grille ,new or old =8-( .

I kind of hid it behind a big panel truck so none of my work mates would see it (I hope) and never heard a word about it , to - morrow I'll drive a different car to work .

My parts guy heard I was unhappy and called & offered to replace it with one from another supplier , I told him to go ahead and order one from this other supplier and I'll try it on another W-123 but I'll struggle with this one for a while yet , I'm planning to polish the original Mercedes surround up then see if I can mate this new , beautiful plastic insert to it...
