When one fills any propane tank, they are pumping liquid propane, NOT gas into the tank. The liquid settles on the bottom of the tank and the gas vapor comes off the top of the tank.
Look at were the vapor output hose is. Pick up any portable propane tank and shake it. You will hear the liquid sloshing. You would have to have the means to pump the liquid from one tank to the other like the propane dealer does. Chuck B

Running on an external tank usually does not backfill the MH tank but
replaces it. The MH tank is shut off and the external tank with its own
regulator supplies the MH. I do not believe that you can backfill an onboard
tank.
