Re: [diesel_mercedes] Fuel filter housing discovery

You may have to check that strainer screen in the tank.  It's right were the fuel line comes out of the tank.  Remove the fuel line, then remove the fitting/assembly the fuel line was connected to.  May want to wait until the tank is as empty as possible.  When that fitting with the strainer is removed, whatever is in the tank will quickly be outside of the tank....

You can also try swapping the connections of the rubber hoses under the hood between the one from the fuel tank with the one going to the return line.  There's no strainer on the return line port at the tank, so if the car runs better, you have a restricted strainer.

My car started after three tries this afternoon. It ran smooth after a
faltering minute. But then came a big surprise. The car now has little
to no power. I barely got out of the driveway and my drive home was
total frustration.
I think that my fuel supply of clogged somewhere beyond the filters.
When I primed the new clear filter, the pump readily filled it.
I suspect that a piece of O ring from my filter bolt has gone somewhere
in my system. One piece was found in the hole in the side of the filter
mounting bolt. Where would the next logical orifice be?
Is there a check valve somewhere that keeps pressure up in the system?
It seems as if I have to build it up every time I shut it off.
