Re: [diesel_mercedes] Gasket sealer

Gasket goop deserves a chapter all it's own.  Which, if any, to use depends on the gasket and the joint.

What I mostly use on my Merc is some stuff called Gasgacinch, a very thin rubber cement.  Serves no sealing purpose, glues gasket to a surface so it doesn't move when parts are assembled. Trivial to remove.  For prospective leaky threads, clean 'em out and use blue loctite.  NEVER use red loctite for anything.

Ask you mechanic if he has any Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket.  If he produces a tube, get in you car and leave.  Find another mechanic. Never go back...

Is there any particular gasket sealer we should use for diesel?

(OK, now my account is really weirded out. I thought I set it up to send group stuff to my phone. It won't take it from either phone or my purrfect harmony email. I can only post from yahoo groups. Arrrgh! Gotta go back and check my settings again.)
