Re: [diesel_mercedes] Re : MPH & Fuel Economy

My 1983 300D was consistently getting close to 30 MPG mixed driving but mostly highway before I pulled it off the road to fix the problems I described yesterday. I do add a gallon of kerosene and 6 ozs each Howe's & MMO on every fill up.

Well ;

The _only_ decent Diesel fuel economy _I_ get , is in the 240D when we're on Holiday as

A. it's swmbo's car so I'm gentle with it

B. I rarely exceed 60 MPH in it as her piercing shrieks tend to drown out the Blues on the CD Payer when I do that .

So it's regular fuel economy ranges from the high 20's to 32 MPG's when on the open highway all day long @ 60 MPH , fully loaded and AC as cold as it'll go .

My Diesel Sports Coupe , OTOH , it a horse (and Mercedes) of an entirely different color and so far it's usually only getting 23 ~ 24 MPG's , one tank it went up to 26 IIRC .

So yes , decent fuel economy -is- possible , I get acceptable (IMO) economy @ 23 MPG's when I'm flat footing it , no V-8's can match that
