we did this a couple of years ago "Frankenbenz"......you might be able to
search the archives.
A few things to consider:
vacuum vs manual kickdown for the tranny.
throttle linkage, especially pedal, through the firewall, to block.
radiator hose location.
Glow plug relay.
from memory, these were the major issues to the swap.
good luck

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] engine swap
hello,
I've been lurking on this list for along time. I have an 84 300sd that
for the last three yrs. has been driven 110 miles daily. done a lot of work
to it, if a problem is mentioned on this list I've done it, almost. this
list has given me a heads up on everything about the car. for example: car
would no longer go into forward, I knew about the b2 piston (had to drive
the last 4 miles home in reverse in a snow storm)
I just finally broke down and bought a new car, vw golf tdi, great car.
the benz is still going, one of my kids jumped right in it.
OK, so now to the subject, and good friend of mine has a 78 240d that he
would like to drop a 617 into, I told him I think its doable. he has a line
on a running 300td. the price is right....take it away. I told him the trans
should follow the engine.
If anybody has first hand advise about engine mounts, etc I would appreciate
it.
thanks for everything,
sean long island, ny
