[diesel_mercedes] Re: New Tires for 83 300 CD

Quick note on tires,  I have been using Coopers for about 6 years, find them too be high quality for the buck,, used them for both my '78 300SD an current daily driver, '81 300D,, have over 60,000 miles, an 6 years of use of the current set, no dry rot, an they would last another 15 to 20,000 miles with proper four wheel alignment needed, will do that  shortly an rotate them properly.
I have done several severe panic stops, due too traffic conditions, an they stick well to both concrete an asphalt highways, an rain slick streets. No comment on snow or ice, as we don't get that much in Houston area.

I do think my old Mercedes brake system is comparable to or sometimes better than the cars with modern antilock systems, that can get you into trouble during certain road conditions.

Well pleased with the Coopers, which can be a bit pricey, unless you shop the Discount tire stores.   Then they can be reasonable in price. Less than $100 per tire, if your a good shopper.

Due too the alignment problem, I did have to get them turned around on the front wheels too even out some uneven tread wear, the fault of the loose nut between the steering wheel an seat, who does not watch tire wear closely enough at times,  just tends too drive the hell out of my fine engineered Mercedes vehicles.
Doug,  Diesel $3.99 an holding for a month now
