[diesel_mercedes] LKQ

LKQ also sells bottom quality Chinese body parts, I imagine that's what the big red trucks are carrying .

For  a while they advertised ' we'll remove the parts for you !' but I've not seen that for  a while and no way am I going to trust the judgement of some yard ape to a random used parts good condition .

I worked on my wagon a while, got the European KM speedo I got from Russia and had rebuilt installed, of course it turned out the gauge binnacle was all broken up inside where the screws go, luckily I'd bought a couple dash & gauge assemblies so I spent some time mixing and matching parts, gauges, little tiny "Just So" screws and so on, got my Mityvac vacuum tester out and tested two of the four under dash HVAC vacuum elements accessible  with the binnacle out, they're O.K. so I cleaned the dust off the various bulbs and re assembled it all, I think every thing works now, I'll have to check the blue high beam indicator after it's dark .

The KM speedo goes to 200 KMH, wow, that sounds and looks impressive, more so than it actually is .

I tested the central locking and discovered the tail gate's vacuum chamber leaks, capped it off and will try to source a new one from the M-B Classic Center in Irvine, Ca., they've been very good at finding me obscure little parts for these 35 year old cars .

For now the doors all lock at the same time, not the hatch though .

I got a new under hood insulation pad with foil heat shield for the turbo charger, there's still a fair bit of old foam from the original pad clinging to the under side of the hood, I've been trying to get it off and to - day washed the entire under side of the hood with purple industrial de greaser, that's nice but it didn't touch the old foam bits , I tried a really stiff bristle brush, no joy so I dug out my hard plastic scraper and had at it, this is pretty good but it's slow going ~ I don't want to scrape the paint at all .

In time my mangled shoulder hurt so much I quit and closed the hood, mixed up a bucket of soap and washed & dried the whole car, put up my tools and sat down & passed out until my brother showed up and woke me up .

For a while at the Auto Jumbles I'd see car antennas made in the shape of women, kinda tacky but prolly much fun for a farm boy....

Thank you gents for the junk yard refresher. As I have had no need to be in a junk yard for many years, I forgot about them reimbursing the admission fee if you bought something.

As far as LKQ Corp. being an auto recycler, I did not know that. I have seen their trucks on the road for many years. I had no idea that was what their box trucks delivered.

And now your moniker Inner City Anti-Theft Appearance Group makes sense Nate. Thanks for clearing that up.

And coat hangers for radio antennas? Wow, I had forgotten about that. Certainly do not see metal radio antennas these days or lack thereof.
