O.K. so we're out visiting in Henderson, Nv. just tooling along in the 96* F heat, AC blowing and going, conversing after a nice lunch when suddenly I begin to hear faint music ~ I ask if Demarkis in the back seat has un muted his game, no says SWMBO, it's the radio and points ~ it has turned itself on so I looked in the mirror and Lo ! the power antenna is slightly less than 1/2 way up ! .
I fiddle with the antenna switch on the dashboard and get it to go 2/3 the way up, now I can get a local FM station and have clear reception ~ I get to our place and find a shady parking spot, grab a clean paper towel and vigorously clean the exposed antenna mast before shutting the car off and opening the trunk (it needs the key to open the trunk), turn the ignition back on and am pleased to see the antenna begin to extend, I gently help it until it stops then reach into the now open trunk and unplug the power cord , shut the car off and close it all up, now we'll be able to play the radio on the way home to - morrow, whew .
I'm wondering how / why the radio turned itself on, I hope it's not getting ready to die on me .
