O.k.;
I'm in Nevada so naturally I headed over the Nevada Pic-A-Part on North Lamb where I found one lonely 1984 300D sedan in incredibly good shape ~ it was an impound from Eliis AFB and was apparently well taken care of , _zero_ dirt / spilled coffee / drinks / ciggie butts on the floor and perfect interior, what was left as someone had taken the seats and carpets along with many other getting hard to find good cosmetic bits .
The engine was untouched and had good clean coolant in it, I scavenged a bunch of good engine bits and a perfect, flexible glow plug harness with the relay attached for $5 (!) , un sun damaged rear speaker covers in Palomino with the correct screws for my '82 240D, lots of those little bits and bobs every old Mercedes seems to need .
The slushbox tranny had been rebuilt in 1990 and would have been a good cheap thing to take but I'm three up in y Coupe so not much space for junkyard treasures this trip out .
I then drove to Henderson Pic-A-Part where I found several mid 1980's SD's & SDL's including one lone Diesel, engine and everything under th hood untouched .
I removed and tested the power antennas from the two car that still had them, they work but slowly, I'm hoping I can polish then lubricate the chrome masts and get them working reliably, the antenna I installed for this road trip failed, I hope I didn't bend it or sotehing but the empty Desert goes by easier with the radio working, the current antenna failed down of course .
