'86 300SDL (250K miles). Half a day to remove and spray paint her wheels with silver gray. Somethings just scream out to be done. By no means a professional job, but I sleep better at night having fixed the old eyesore wheels.

Subject: [diesel_mercedes] Pebble In My Shoe
A few weeks ago (? longer ?) one of the neighbors side swiped my beloved Diesel Sports Coupe stem to stern and drove off , never said anything .
To - day I got out my tin of ' Met - All ' metal polish , this is a 2,000 grit super fine metal polishing compound used on aluminum aircraft , we also used it on the L.A.P.D.'s plexiglass canopies and bubbles , I put a dab of it on the corner of a clean rag and rubbed a bit and Lo ! 99 % of the transferred paint and rubber from the other car , vanished .
I still have some scratches and dents but unless you knew it had been side swiped , you'd never know .
Then I broke out the Meguiar's # 15 Cleaner Wax and a new natural cellulose sponge and hand polished the entire car , taking care to remove all those thousands of oil / tar droplets ijn the chalky paint , this took most of the day and nearly killed me ~ this is young mans work , not for crippled fat old geezers like me .
Then I got my bottle of Polymer Wetcoat Wax and another new sponge and applied a full coat of wax .
It hasn't looked this good since I bought it , if then .
Looking at the scratches every time I went to drive it , was driving me batshyte .
I replaced a broken gummipuffer air cleaner mount and I guess I'm now ready for Sunday's TT Run .
