[diesel_mercedes] Batteries & Other Fixes

Nothing critical Just noticed when I got back into town after two weeks near Tacoma that starting Mary was a bit of a drag, and thought I would have to jump the battery. The last new battery was put in when we did the engine replacement over 5 years ago now. Time flies. So, while in Walmart getting some foo faw, I decided a new battery was in order. Seeing nothing going on in their garage, and knowing I could change it out in 10 minutes, I decided to let them do it. Two hours later, they said I was good to go - except the guy could not figure out how to close my hood. Well, the first time it happened to me I could not figure out how to close my hood either. That was back in the day when I did not know how to fully open the hood either (make her stand proud). So I showed him the mystery of the hood latch and closed the hood.

The real reason for this post is to tout the glories of Sugru http://sugru.com/about/ I came back to town after our 100F weather to discover my rear view mirror case had burst apart leaving my mirror hanging and dangling for the world to see. I immediately made plans to go to a PAP, hit Ebay, or visit our parts friends. But, then I remembered I had used Sugru to fix some other household broken parts, and had some packets still laying around. So, presto quicko, out came some black Sugru goop, rolled into a thin worm like looking thing, applied blindly to the back of the broken mirror case, put 15 or so rubber bands around the case to keep it secure for 1 day - and voila I got a $1 fix of the mirror. I may, 0r may not, get another mirror someday (got to figure out how to unattach it first), but I am thinking this fix will last 100 years, which is longer than I will last.
