Many current cars come with dinky spares. I don't think that is your case. I think the spare is the factory size. But I like the idea of going to larger sizes.
I think the likely problem is that the front tires will rub on extreme turns - does it?

My 83 300SD has 16 inch wheels with 225R60/16 tires. The spare is a 14 inch wheel with a 195R70/14 tire. The bigger tires seem to clear the wheel wells OK, and bolt up to the hubs. Is there a problem with this?
