I didn't mean to start a political firestorm. I like the group and read most posts. It is a pity about California; I visited during the late 80's and the climate is fantastic. Unfortunately, the state is bankrupt and I suspect the US taxpayer will be paying off the debt obligations and unfunded liabilities sometime in the near future or the state will sufffer the fate of Vallejo. Here, we finance public obligations thru property taxation; a nice house like those found in mid level neighborhoods in CA would be from $5 to 15K/yr in property tax. I guess it is to be expected when retiring teachers and other civil servants receive $100K+/yr pensions. There is a publicly subsidized wind farm here that has not been successful, FWIW. We'll see how it shakes out. One of my buddies bought a newer Dodge Diesel Van to replace his Dodge that had the Merc aluminium diesel, modeled after the motor found in the 300D's (forgive my inability to recite model numbers). The dealer was anxious to get the older van to resell and because of the high mileage and the fact that he travels thru the Bronx occasionally (fearingg a breakdown), he bought the new Dodge non-MB diesel van. Well it used about 2 qts of oil every two weeks/1000 miles; the dealer said this was "normal operation" use.....pure BS. He sold the van and bought some Jap iron. Whenever he and I visit, I tell him; "You shoulda kept the MB motored van." This is the problem with domestic manufacturers; they just don't care and they destroy what was a great brand like MB. Happy Sunday. --- On Sat, 6/9/12, audiolaw@aol.com <audiolaw@aol.com> wrote:
