1. Mercedes Source is testing some new "dustless" pads and should be reporting back.
2. Also, check your hoses for expansion or rot - if the fluid has not been changed in a million years, you may have absorbed some water which may be rusting your calipers. As long as it is in the air, it is a good time to take care of business.

Expect to change the front pads every few years , not necessary to machine the rotors most of the time .
DO buy new " brake wear sensors " ~ they're little delicate wire thingies that fit into the front pads so the first time it blinks the dash light when you apply the brakes , the rotors are not all ground up . these sensors are really cheap from some suppliers, others (NAPA IIRC) charge 4 X more #$ .
Do pull the rear wheels and have a looksee at the rear pads as they need replacement every two or three sets of front pads .
It's a simple DIY job but USE SAFETY STANDS as your Mercedes is a heavy beast and will kill you if it gets the chance .
So far , I've not discovered any truly dustless brake pads and yes , I have tried the Dealer pads , they're great but @ $70 a pop , I expected close to zero brake dust , not the same dust as the cheapo $9 pep Boys pads .
Be sure to remove the outer wheel bearings , clean and re - pack them as if you don't , ere long you'll hear a faint humming noise as the old dry bearing dries out and grinds itself to death .
Used bearings are fine from the junkyard *IF* they're in good shape and you take the time to bang the inner races out as they wear in sets ~ tie the bearings & races (inner & outer) to - gether with scrap wire or a shoelace .
Use CLEAN RAGS on bearings always ! .
If you're desperately poor , used brake pads will work fine but they'll usually squeak like mad .
