Re: [diesel_mercedes] Update on Trish's '81 300 D trying to live as a '80 300SD

I had a "feeling" about that station.  I was on my way into town to Valero.  That's where we got our diesel yesterday and the car ran amazing on it.  Funny, the tank sure will be clean now! And we found other things under there that need to be replaced. :)

There's a bunch of truck stops on our way to/from camp.  A truck stop/wash/subway is the closest business to the farm 6 miles away at the intestate.  As of yesterday Loves near camp was only .05 higher than Valero in Cedar Hill.  We paid $3.95/gallon.  Just like in his truck. We only stop at Valero or another Top Tier station. The tiny extra cost is worth the way the truck runs on it as opposed to using Murphys in front of Walmart.

BTW my sister in Kenai, Alaska says the highest gas up there is at the station with "cheap" fuel, right across from the refinery which supplies the station!  It was over $4.00 on Friday.

You do want to deal with a station that has a high volume turnover of fuel. I would also look at where the truck stops are as the truckers will almost always will get good fuel. Avoid the stuff that sits around, or collects water. We all have gotten a bad tank (mine was loaded with parafin once upon a time)

Soooo yesterday after feeding the dogs and playing with them one of us yawned and the other followed, so did a nap.  So no car work done yesterday...other than online research.

Today the car started right up.  Ran like crap.  We went into town and picked up a new twist on filter and some new diesel from a different station.  We disconnected the fuel line, poured diesel into a clean container, stuck the fuel line in and she ran like the champ she's supposed to be.

It is our opinion that it's 100% the fuel.  Kevin knows the owner of the station, they go up there all the time, of course his brother was there today, the owner will be there tomorrow.  I've made a copy of the receipt so Kevin will have it.  I'll also down load the videos to his phone showing the time/date stamp on how well it ran before putting $50 in the tank and how crappy it ran after.

So since it was such a nice day, we bailed and came home to be with the animals.  Kevin will have the guys help him tomorrow deal with the tank.

Time to go watch a movie.
