[diesel_mercedes] ! It Runs ! (Trish's SD)

O.K. , well & good .

Now to cases : do not remove the fuel tank , get some really big open oil pans or containers , like 5 gallons each , wipe them Hospital clean with clean rags , jack up the back of the car & block it safely (means NO CINDER BLOCKS !!) then crawl underneath it and look up just above & to the right of the " Pumpkin " ~ you'll see a BIG (46MM) hexagonal thing with a fat rubber hose connected to it , follow this rubber hose to the left & forward where it'll be clamped to a steel , 7 MM hose pipe that leads to the front of the car ~ take some time to clean this hose and where it attaches to the pipe as well as the big 46 MM nut looking thing and the hole it sticks out of . get them REALLY clean of Road Grime or you'll be sorry later .

Drag your several drain pans under the car , pile some fairly clean rags on your chest & loosen the 7MM hose at the front end where it attaches to the steel pipe and twist it before pulling it loose ~ you'll be rewarded with a gusher of Diesel Fuel that *MUST* be 7MM round , as big as the hose it's _gushing_ (NOTE : not dribbling nor simply running out) out of , this gusher cannot be stopped so remember to have 20 gallons of open containers so you can slide each empty one in as the Diesel Fuel _GUSHES_ out , all over you , the bottom of the car , the Garage floor , etc. , etc. ~ BIG SAFETY WARNING !!!! you'll be hard pressed to light the spilled Diesel Fuel on fire but , it's still a SERIOUS FIRE HAZARD !!!! .

O.K. ,. you're all done draining out the $50 worth of suspect Diesel Fuel ? good , now , cut the old hose off the big nut looking thing as close to the connector as you can , then use (only) a 46MM 6 point socket (VW Shops & Tool Rental Places have this) to unscrew the nut , _MORE_ Diesel Fuel and slimy , nasty Wes Craven Horror Movie typ slimy sludge will also come spraying down upon you , try to remember how much you wanted this car at this irritating juncture , the nut has on the inside the tank end of it , a screen you must look closely at , it's almost always covered with gunk , wipe it clean then wash it well in a bowl of gasoline and an old toothbrush until there's _nothing_ left sticking to it .

Now , use a pair of dykes to cut away the thin sheet metal crimp on the remaining tiny bit of hose on the 46MM plug/screen Assy. and VIOLA ! once you open the crimp and twist / slide the old rotted hose off , you'll be rewarded with a nice clean 7MM hose barb you can install 2' or so of new, DIESEL RATED 7mm fuel hose , your NAPA parts store will have it in stock . ask the nice Counter Man for a " Fuel Injection " hose clamp , it'll be a band typ instead of the normal crappy gear / screw typ that _WILL_ damage the new hose no matter what the Parts Counter Guy promises .

You're almost there , it's normal to have a largeish single air bubble in the clear fuel intake screen , just no stream of tiny bubbles leading into it as you rev. the engine .

Once the car is running ,you never , _EVER_ loosen the injector lines to bleed the system out ~ that's Bass - Ackwards , simply running the engine at 3,000 RPM's will self bleed it , if it still shakes & misses @ idle , check the return hoses (they're special too) and then re check the valve adjustment but since it already ran O.K. for a while , I'm betting there's a light at the end of your tunnel .

I've been out of town a few days, decided no computer this time , sorry for the late reply , I see the others here have guided you right .

I hope this helps , much more worthless but FREE Tech Help if you want it .

If the guy refuses to refund your $50 , save this as it's good to put in a bucket and clean parts with , once it's too nasty to clean anything it makes a dandy weed killer , just don't tell anyone you use it for that .

Trish Said :

Soooo yesterday after feeding the dogs and playing with them one of us yawned and the other followed, so did a nap. So no car work done yesterday...other than online research.

Today the car started right up. Ran like crap. We went into town and picked up a new twist on filter and some new diesel from a different station. We disconnected the fuel line, poured diesel into a clean container, stuck the fuel line in and she ran like the champ she's supposed to be.

It is our opinion that it's 100% the fuel. Kevin knows the owner of the station, they go up there all the time, of course his brother was there today, the owner will be there tomorrow. I've made a copy of the receipt so Kevin will have it. I'll also down load the videos to his phone showing the time/date stamp on how well it ran before putting $50 in the tank and how crappy it ran after.

So since it was such a nice day, we bailed and came home to be with the animals. Kevin will have the guys help him tomorrow deal with the tank.

Time to go watch a movie.
