Re, the glow plugs - I keep one of those extendable magnets around to pick up the little nuts that always seem to fall into the dark secret spots. I also put a white sheet or towel underneath where I am working so I can see things that fall, which includes my wrenches. As for the starter, I like to keep the car as high as I can get it, but of course on very safe jack stands or a friends lift. I always try to have several "safety" factors, when I am under my cars because my mantra is "3500 pounds" and I murmur it frequently

On my 1984 300SD I need to install the starter and the new glow plugs. Any tios or help full advise to follow. I also just purchased a 1987 300SDL last week it is a beauty hopefully I'll get some pictures of it up soon.
