Don't do that Trish ;
Put on your rubber gloves and remove the P.S. resivoir cap , look in at the fluid ~ ideally it'll be red as it needs to be ATF , and sweet smelling .
Most likely it'll be dead black and stink like it is burned , this is normal as it is indeed burned , even if he changed it once .
You'll have to change it a few times (like with every 3,000 mile oil & filter service) before it remains red & smells sweet again , don't worry , just do this , it is simple , use a cheapo turkey baster to suck out the old fluid then pour fresh Dexron ATF in and replace the lid , motor on happily .
After a few changes the fulid will remain red & sweet , then you change the filter once & refil , after this point the P.S. only needs servicing every 12 months or 10,000 miles .
Tom declided dong this simple service and his Vickers P.S. Pump packed it in without much warning , it began to leak and howl , then it died and driving a 3 Ton Mercedes with no P.S. , isn't fun and can be dangerous .
Lucky for Tom , he works out and has strong arms plus his little brother is a Mechanic and knows where to find the $1,500.00 P.S. pump cheaply ($35.00 IIRC) and install it for free .

I'll have to check the receipts. Not sure on that one.
