Diesel RVs: Re: [diesel_mercedes] battery/headlight/alternator

If you are not using the headlight and the battery still drains then it is not the headlight. My first Benz, a 75 300d, would kill batteries. It turned out to be a stuck-on glowplug relay. BTW, diesels, especially these diesels, do not die for lack of electricity. So I am assuming it died for other reasons, and THEN you could not get it started because the battery was dead for some other reason. Try this, start it up, turn on the headlights, and disconnect the glowplug relay and watch to see if the lights get brighter when you unplug the relay. If they do not get brighter then the problem is elsewhere.

I replaced the left front headlight last Thursday, on Saturday the battery was dead. Charged and was fine Sunday and Monday. car died in the drive thru this am. Jumped it and will probably have to jump it to get home tonight. I put in a sylvania super bright twice the price bulb. $19 vs $9 for the cheap one.

Anyone think of a reason the new bulb would drain the battery? or just coincidence.
The alternator is a little over a year old.
The battery is 10 months old.

If the battery checks out ok at wally's, I guess I will take it in and have the mech check the alternator.
