Mine needs that too (forgot about that).  When I went to change the battery, hood pad mess was all over the place under there.  When it had the exhaust leak at the turbo, it blackened the area on the hood above it.  I'm going to get the old decaying stuff off and install a new hood pad.  It will be a lot quieter after that's done since the old stuff can't be absorbing too much noise.
