[diesel_mercedes] Re: Transmission gives up. What will it cost me?

Max ;

The deal is : you never know how good or bad a used tranny is ~ even if
you adjust the front band and service the filter etc. , it may still be
DOA or fail in a short time .

My first Diesel Coupe came to me with a " Rebuilt tranny " ~ the fluid
smelled bad so I serviced it and looked into the stack of receipts that
came with the car , turns out it was a junkyard tranny and the lazy
bastids didn't even bother to change the fluid much less adjust the
band etc. , lucky for me , it shifted O.K. and didn't leak much - he'd
been charged like $1,200.00 for the job too .

Unless it's under $1,000.00 installed , I'd pass on the used tranny
gamble and you all know I'm a gambling man who uses lots of junkyard
parts ~ pushing one of these beasts to the side of the road , is no
fun .
