I wonder if, 10 years for now, the question "what killed the diesel
engine", will be asked. My understanding is, that back in the late
70s, Japanese auto makers, were using an emissions systems, that
burned fuel to help reduce emissions
(this allowed their cars to burn leaded fuel), at a point in time.
This system, burned more total fuel and I wonder if, over say a
hundred miles of regular driving, less total pollution was emitted,
because testing of this type was not done.
From this video, looks like the same thing is happening to the
diesel. According to Wikipedia the 7.3L PSD, Ford Motor used in
F & E series trucks was killed by, emissions. Despite it being
"one of the best light truck diesel engines available".
I'm sure of one thing; the US auto industry does not need this,
especially right now!
